AromaticallyAromatics is the most common and well known way to use essential oils. People have used them to help their homes smell nice for years. The most common way is to use a diffuser. A diffuser is designed to release a fine mist into the air releasing tiny particles (smells). We then breath these particles in and gain the benefits from it. Aromatic use is a good way to help support your mood and mindset because of the olfactory nerves receptors that help us detect smells and the limbic system of the brain, an area that governs the body’s emotional responses that support our mood work together quickly. When using a diffuser it is important to have one that meets your needs. If you have a larger space, a larger diffuser that covers more square feet would be an option. You can also use multiple small ones that cover a smaller area. In my house I find that small ones work well in the bedrooms and living room. In the kitchen where the ceilings are higher and open to the stairway, I have a larger one. I absolutely love the doTerra diffuser options. They are sleek and pretty and also work really well. However, with two small children who run into them, knock them down and break them, I find it more cost effective to use ones from amazon! They work just as well and cost less so when they break I’m not as heart broken! I will say, the ones I have disperse the mist on the side rather the top and I’m not a fan of that. I have to make sure there is nothing blocking the path so that the whole room gets the effects, not just a pillow or the arm of the couch! Another great way to use these aromatically is to place a drop of essential oil in to the palm of your hand, rub it into the other hand and cup them over your mouth and nose. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths in and out. Doing so allows you to stop for a minute and fully enjoy the smells and get great benefits from the essential oils. I love using balance this way during the day.I find this helps slow or reduce anxious feelings or to pull me out of low funks. I will them rub the remaining oils over my heart or on my neck and shoulders. Which leads us to the next way to use essential oils!
TopicallyPeople are most familiar with topical use at massage parlors or spas. They are used there to help promote relaxation and reduce muscle tension. However that’s not all they are good for! Many essential oils have wonderful antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties! This makes them great to use to help soothe irritated skin, blemishes, scratches and many other skin issues. The oils can help support the body in areas we may not even know need the extra help by absorbing and dispersing throughout the body! I like to think of them as Gods tiny helpers! Some of my favorite ways to uses oils topically are on my face to help reduce blemishes and scars and to reduce fine-lines and wrinkles! Less face it, I’m not getting any younger so why not try to look as good as I can, right? I also love rubbing the oils on my shoulders and neck to reduce tension. I’m a stressor and carry tons of tension in my muscles! The relief from the oils is amazing! I love having it at my fingertips and not having to wait to get home and take a bath or get in for a massage! I also use oils daily on my kids by applying them to the bottoms of their feet and back of their necks. I love using this body mist to help hydrate my skin and to provide an uplifting aroma!
InternalWith doTerra they make taking essential oils internally easy! Remember last time I said that doTerra essential oils are CPTG? This stands for pure certified therapeutic grade and ensures the purity of the essential oils doTerra offers. This makes most of them safe to take internally. Doterra has a way of letting us know what is safe to take internally and what is not recommended to do so. On the bottles you will notice one of toe things. Either there is a supplement label or not. If there is a supplement label then that oil is safe to ingest. If you don’t see it on the bottle than it is not recommended to ingest! When ingesting the essential oils, you can do so by placing a drop under your tongue, adding a drop or two to your water, or by adding them to a veggie cap.
